Wilcox Tech's girls soccer team was forced to forfeit its CIAC Class M tournament matchup after a wave of injuries combined with a player transfer left the Wildcats unable to field a full roster, according to Yahoo Sports.
The shortage meant the team could not meet the minimum number of players required to compete, resulting in an automatic forfeit and an abrupt end to their postseason appearance.
While forfeits are uncommon in high school tournament play, roster depth issues like injuries and transfers can leave smaller programs especially vulnerable late in the season when there is little time to recover numbers.
