Georgia Senator Jon Ossoff secured reelection Tuesday, defeating Republican Representative Mike Collins in a race watched closely as a bellwether for the balance of power in the US Senate, according to France 24.
The victory keeps the seat in Democratic hands and positions Ossoff, the Senate's youngest member, as an increasingly prominent voice within his party, France 24 reported.
Al Jazeera also confirmed the result, noting that Ossoff's win allows Democrats to hold onto a seat that had been considered one of the most competitive contests of the cycle.
