The Met Gala is getting a makeover for 2027. According to E! News and Page Six, organizers have unveiled a new theme and companion exhibit for next year's event, replacing an earlier plan to center the gala on a retrospective of designer John Galliano.
That Galliano-focused concept fell apart after the designer withdrew from the event following growing controversy, as reported by E! News. Page Six reports the museum has now settled on a theme built around exploring everyday or "ordinary" fashion, a notable shift from the typically extravagant, boundary pushing concepts the gala is known for.
The first Monday in May, long synonymous with couture spectacle on the Met's red carpet, is expected to take on a noticeably more casual tone under the new direction, per E! News. Further details on the exhibit and its curation are expected as the 2027 event approaches.
