Israeli President Isaac Herzog announced he will reveal on Sunday, November 8, which political figure he is tasking with attempting to form a new governing coalition, according to France 24.
The decision follows a round of consultations Herzog held with the leaders of all parties that won seats in the recent election. Under Israel's political system, the president holds formal discussions with party heads after an election before selecting the candidate seen as most likely to successfully assemble a majority coalition in the Knesset.
The announcement sets the stage for the next phase of government formation talks, as the designated candidate will then have a window of time to negotiate coalition agreements with other parties.
