Brett Yormark will step down as commissioner of the Big 12 Conference once the current college football season concludes, according to Yahoo Sports, which cited two sources briefed on his decision. His departure is set to take effect in January 2027, Sporting News reported.
Yormark took over the Big 12 in 2022 and is leaving after roughly four years in the role to pursue an opportunity outside college sports, per Yahoo Sports. During his tenure he was credited with steering the conference through a turbulent stretch of realignment while locking in significant media and sponsorship deals, according to Yahoo Sports.
What comes next
The conference has not yet named a successor, and reports note the search for the next Big 12 commissioner is expected to begin following Yormark's announcement.
