African Export-Import Bank, known as Afreximbank, is considering a $1 billion syndicated loan deal that could for the first time include a slice denominated in offshore yuan, according to people familiar with the matter cited by Bloomberg.
If finalized, the move would mark the Cairo-based lender's first entry into the offshore renminbi market, a step that reflects growing interest among emerging-market borrowers in tapping Chinese currency funding alongside traditional dollar financing.
Bloomberg reports the plan is still being shaped and details such as final size, pricing, and the split between currencies have not been confirmed publicly. Afreximbank, which finances trade across African nations, has increasingly looked to diversify its funding sources as it expands lending activity on the continent.
